ENSEMBLE OVERVIEW
There are two main groups of ensembles in our program: curricular ensembles and extracurricular ensembles.
Our curricular ensembles are Freshman Band, Concert Band, and Wind Ensemble. These are official class offerings. Students will receive a grade for these classes and should expect to complete homework and other assignments, just as they would for any other class. These three concert bands open to different groups of students. All 9th grade band students must enroll in Freshman Band. Concert Band is open to all 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students who wish to take band. Wind Ensemble is an auditioned group; Wind Ensemble auditions for the coming year take place in February of the year prior.
Our extracurricular ensembles are Marching Band, Jazz Band, Jazz Ensemble, and Afro-Cuban Percussion Ensemble. These groups are after-school activities. Marching Band runs in the summer and fall and the Jazz bands run in the winter and spring. Afro-Cuban Percussion Ensemble runs all year. All groups but Jazz Ensemble are open to any student who wishes to sign-up. Jazz Ensemble is an auditioned group; auditions take place each November.
